Between cities
Domestic flights are cheap on sale weeks. Trains are slower and better for the scenery (Bangkok–Chiang Mai overnight). Buses and vans cover everything else. Boats are weather-dependent. Book the first and last ferry with margin.
In cities
Bangkok: BTS, MRT, river boats, Grab. Chiang Mai and smaller cities: songthaew, Grab, motorbike only if you are a confident rider — accidents are the main tourist medical story. Never assume your travel insurance loves motorbikes.
