Two seas
Andaman (Phuket, Krabi, Phi Phi, Lanta, Similan) is dramatic limestone and a May–October monsoon. The Gulf (Samui, Phangan, Tao, and the east coast) has a different rain pattern. You can often flip coasts if one side is wet.
Pick a mood
Family beaches, diving islands, party piers, and almost-empty sand exist an hour apart. Ferries change with weather. For a first trip, one hub plus day boats beats island-hopping every night.
