Travel Tips

Money, SIM cards, etiquette, scams to skip, and the small habits that make a trip smoother.

On the ground

ATMs charge a fee; use a card with reimbursement if you can. eSIMs and airport SIMs both work. The King’s anthem in cinemas is not optional. Temple clothes: cover shoulders and knees. Feet and heads have etiquette — don’t point, don’t touch.

Stay kind and sharp

Common annoyances: gem-shop detours, closed-temple tuk-tuk stories, and ‘special’ tickets. Use official counters. Drink plenty of water. Travel insurance that includes clinics in Bangkok is worth more than another beach club.

Notes to expand

  • Temple dress and quiet voices
  • Remove shoes when you see a pile of them
  • Carry a light scarf for sudden temple stops
  • Emergency: 191 police, 1669 medical — confirm locally
